Before and after: organic modern in Los Angeles

As a first-time homeowner, this client wanted to put her own touch on her new condo.

She had used an online design service in the past, but the pieces didn’t work well with the layout of her new home and she felt her style had evolved. Although the living and dining room are on different levels, the space very much has an open concept feel, so the two areas needed to speak to each other.

We quickly landed on an organic modern design aesthetic, leaning into a neutral color palette and varied textures, such as chunky knits and plaster, to create a cohesive yet cozy space. We amped up the scale of the furniture to better fill the space and completely reoriented the layout of the living room. Through varied wood tones with beautiful natural grain, sculptural pieces like the sideboard and coffee table, performance fabrics and washable rugs, we achieved a design that’s not only beautiful, but also functional and pet friendly.

One of my favorite details of this project is the one-of-a-kind vintage floor lamp I scored at an antique mall. Every room needs something unique in my opinion! As much as I wanted to keep it for myself, I knew it was the perfect finishing touch for my client’s home.

Check out some of the before and afters below, and head to our portfolio to see the final space in more detail.
